Deepwater Horizon

The actual software to operate an oil rig is very technical (and running on Windows NT at the time this event was taking place) and hence hard for the layperson to understand. We were tasked with designing interfaces for the bridge and ancillary screens throughout the movie that a general viewer could easily understand without the knowledge of drilling for oil. This was accomplished by basing hero elements such as the pressure test on already established iconic interfaces such as the speedometer. Since the UIs had elements of familiarity, they allowed the viewer to continue to participate in the progression of the story and not be distracted by their lack of industry knowledge.
